Project Description

Social Media – the Good and the Bad

We have seen the impacts, many positive, but many negative, that electronic communication devices and social media websites have on our lives. There are certain segments of the community that are seeing more significant negative impacts, particularly in the areas of cyberbullying and negative social media messaging. We will initially be focusing on providing services to the youth in our community and their parents/caregivers to learn how to use social media and their electronic devices in a safe and healthy manner.

We will be collaborating with Dr. Sean O’Hara Psy.D, NCAC I, SAP, a Board Licensed Psychologist, with over 30 years of experience with psychiatric, mental health, dual-diagnosis, and crisis intervention health problems. In addition to his two San Diego County office locations—Rancho Bernardo and La Jolla, Dr. O’Hara travels throughout the country to work with out-of-state clients, corporations and athletes. Dr. O’Hara works with all populations, corporations, collegiate and professional sports teams, entertainment industries, and rock concert tours. We are excited to be partnering with him.

We have come dangerously close to accepting the online situation as a problem that we just can’t solve.

Electronic Addiction

Hands up! Who is checking phone updates at the dinner table? And who knows what effect your behavior has on your child?

Rather than disengaging with your children at meal time you could involve them in a lively conversation and find out how they spent their day. In this scenario, both sides benefit. Unfortunately, many parents ignore that simple rule and keep checking their phones, and are getting distracted. Parents’ addiction to electronic devices affects children. There have been multiple studies to back this up.

Parents are playing an important role
